Long Term Care Ins
Posted: 06 Jan 08 6:05 PM
My sister was just diagnosed with HD and I was told by the doctor to try to get long term care insurance for her. She has not had the genetic test but is definitely showing symtoms of it, mostly cognitive and problems walking. Can anyone recommend an insurance company that doesn't require a physical (or even a meeting in person) and also does not ask questions regarding genetic diseases in the family?

You can forget MetLife, Banker's Life, and John Hancock. I have yet to find one- they are all willing to insure me however. I have an app in at SBLI- I will let you know if they work out. Also, if you don't mind me asking- how was your sister's doctor able to properly diagnose her being HD+ without the blood test? So many of the symtoms mimic other diseases (i.e. the mood swings, memory, unbalanced gait, obvious twitches and motor issues......I have alot of my husband's symptoms- however, I am just 'overly stressed') Just a question

It wasn't an official diagnosis but our father had it and she has significant cognitive and balance issues. She ordered an MRI and bloodwork and we are going to discuss the genetic test at our next visit. I've done some additional research on the LT care and with her showing symptoms I don't think we are going to be able to get it. Please let me know if you have any luck at SBLI.
