REACH OUT.  JOIN A SUPPORT GROUP .  HELP YOURSELF AND SOMEONE ELSE.

In a support group or with a counslor, people will not judge you or try to tell you what to do. They are there to listen and share feelings and experiences in a confidential setting.

You can click on "SUPPORT" on this site's home page to find a support group near you.  You may also contact the NE Center of Excellence to meet with the social worker for counseling If you do not live in New England go to the national HDSA website www.hdsa.org  to find the closest support group or Center of Excellence near you.   You DO NOT have to go this road alone. Support is all around you.

Hi Everyone!

 

I am the Regional Director for the New England office of The Huntington's Disease Society of America.  Our newly formed Family Services committee felt we very much needed a message board for people who would like to make requests for transportation to a support group or share rides to the COE clinic or to communicate any other need.  We know that some people do not live near a support group.  Some people just want to ask a question or make a  comment and get feedback from others who have a similiar situation.  We want to help anyone dealing with HD get support any way that we can!

 

We hope that you find this helpful.  We are ever so appreciative of the volunteer who created this for us along with our new website.

Hi, I just joined your site.  My name is Brenda Ingalls and I have a 13 year old son with advanced stage JHD.  I wanted to let you know that I have found a wonderful home care agency Personal Touch who offers nurse visits, nursing assistants, physical therapists and wonderful care.  Brian has benefited from them along with me tremendously and we wouldn't be where we are at!  Also, because HDSA doesn't offer any support for financial pieces and the pitfalls famalies encounter I do have some great names of some folks who do.. Some agencies we found helpful were:  Parners in Health, Chronic Ill Health Foundation, Moore center services (NH), Harry Allen Gregg, Proulx, Webber, and of course networking with community resources in your town.  I also have equipment that we don't use anylonger so if I see someone in need I would like to pass it on.  This disease is financilly horrific so anything that I have that someone else can use I would be more than happy to donate!
